Poppy McGhee is a violinist from Somerset, England. She is her third year at the Royal Academy of Music, studying violin with Jack Liebeck and viola with Jon Thorne. She loves all aspects of music making, from chamber music to orchestral playing to solo performing. She is a member of Beares Chamber, and is a frequent soloist with the Orchestra of St Johns, performing works such as the Lark Ascending and Sarasate Zigeunerweisen.
Poppy is a passionate string and early years music educator. She teaches a large studio of private violin students, and works as the Head of Primary Stage provision at Discovery Strings. Poppy is thrilled to be an instrumental ambassador for the Benedetti foundation this year. She is the founder of Vivace Violin holiday courses, and tutors on Junior Arpeggione.
Since a young age, Poppy has been passionate about community music, fundraising and volunteering with the Amber Trust to support blind and visually impaired young musicians from the age of 8. She teaches classroom music at a SEN school for Brent music service, and runs SEND workshops for WeJam Foundation. Poppy leads early years group classes at Questors Young Musicians, is a Support Musician for Wigmore Hall’s Chamber Tots Sessions, and has been selected to join the Emerging Music Leader scheme for Sound Connections early childhood music project.
